Christian WorldView of History

When someone says there is a Christian view of history, one (namely non-Christians) gets anxious over the idea that someone is manipulating history to fit an agenda. This is not truly how a Christian Worldview is exemplified in history.
A Christian worldview will recognize that God is sovereign over ALL history. This means simply that God is utterly in control of everything that had happened. Man was made in God's image thus he can think logically with a level of creativity. But man must also realize that if God is soverign man is most definitely not, he is sinful! Typically the Christian historian, like all historians but be honest in producing the most accurate piece of research they can. Christians typically do this through the lens of the Bible. This simply means keeping the Scriptures in mind while researching. A historian who does a great job of this is Liberty University's and Texas Christian University's Steven E. Woodworth. Mainly a historian of the Civil War era, Woodworth produces works keeping Christians within their rightful place in history, without trying to use the Bible as the answer to history.

What a Christian worldview should not do is use the Bible to explain parts of history. The race of man are feeble sinners incapable of understanding God's intentions. It also is not wise for Christians to only seek out the Christians in history, this becomes incredible inclusive and does not provide a well rounded view. Another big problem is when Christians utilize the view or Whig view, this simple states is when historians will view historian at the head of an agenda, to explain history strickly in terms of Biblical contexts. providentialist. Radio host Mike Church is a popular conservative radio host who often uses history to fulfill the Bible or vice-versa. This can give an incorrect view because men are sinners and incapable of discerning God's intentions.

Christian historians must approach historical research and writing with acknowledging their own bias, and then viewing history through a Biblical lens, without a providentiast view. All historians must be honest and true, this is no different throughout all religions or the religionless.
